What WA radar sites should I know?
Western Australia has about a dozen operational weather radars operated by the Bureau of Meteorology. The most‑used sites are Perth (Serpentine), Geraldton, Albany, Kalgoorlie, Port Hedland and Broome. Each covers a radius of roughly 128–256 kilometres depending on terrain.
- Perth radar – best for the south‑west corner, including Mandurah and Bunbury.
- Port Hedland and Broome radars – essential during cyclone season (November to April).
- Kalgoorlie radar – covers the Goldfields and inland mining areas.
